Complex and compound sentences Complex and compound sentences are types of sentence structures that help add variety and depth to writing. Here's a quick overview: Complex Sentences : These contain one independent clause (a complete sentence) and at least one dependent clause (which cannot stand alone). The dependent clause is introduced by subordinating conjunctions like because, although, while, since , etc. Example: Although it was raining, she went for a walk. Compound Sentences : These are made up of two or more independent clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions ( and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor ) or a semicolon. Example: She wanted to go to the park, but it was closed. Compound-Complex Sentences : A combination of both—a sentence with at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.
