Verbs?  What would we do without them? Well, not really very much because verbs are the words that describe the actions that we do. Without verb we can’t even think about the sentence. Sometimes even a single verb can make the full sentence. For example if we are just saying ‘climb’ or ‘drink’ it suggests the full meaning of the sentence. English verbs can take two main forms, regular verbs and irregular verbs. They are the subject of this article, and are a crucial part of the language. In English, we use verbs in three main ways. Firstly, we use the base form in a number of ways; Base Form Of All Verbs The present simple tense, explaining something that is happening now. For example, ‘We sing in church’; in the infinitive form, which is easy to remember because the verb is preceded by ‘to’. ‘We like to sing in church.’ Ah, so this is a gerund! Verbals: Gerunds, Infinitives, and Participles The three verbals— gerunds, infinitives, and participles —are formed from verbs, but are never used alone as action words in sentences. The infinitive is the base form of a verb with to . Usually it functions as a noun, although it can also function as an adjective or adverb.             To jump is fun. (noun; subject of the verb is )             I like to ski . (noun; direct object of the verb lik...

Unless and If Often when we are talking about present situations, we use unless instead of if...not . Unless means except if or simply it means if...not . Both of these examples have the same meaning and refer to the present time. "You can't go on vacation unless you save some money." " If you don't save some money, you can't go on vacation." "You will feel cold if you don't wear a coat." "You will feel cold unless you wear a coat." Unless is good to use when it highlights an exception to what is generally true. In this example I only have one reason why I may be late: traffic (vehicles on the road): "I'll arrive at 10am unless there is traffic." "I'll arrive at 10am if there isn't traffic." This next example shows us that sometimes the context can change and unless is not exactly interchangeable with if...not . "I'll be annoyed if I do not arrive at 1...
