The whole syllabus is divided into three parts:
SECTION – A:READING COMPREHENSION-20 Marks
SECTION – B:WRITING SKILLS-30 Marks
SECTION – C:Literature Textbooks-30 Marks
Section A
will have two passages
A. One unseen passage with a variety of objective type Questions, including Multiple
choice questions and Short Answer Questions to test comprehension,
interpretation and inference.The total length of the passages will be between 800-900 words. Five Multiple Choice type question and Seven Objective Type Questions (total 12 Marks) shall be asked from this passage.
B. The second passage will be of 400-500 words. Note-making and Abstraction will be assessed.

Sometimes all 20 marks are asked from one passage only.It is easy for the students also because they have to read one passage only which saves there time and energy.
SECTION – B, which is the writing skill and which carries 30 marks has the following scheme-
a. Advertisements and notices, designing of drafting posters, writing formal and informal invitations and replies. one question out of the two short Answer Questions- 4 Marks. Among notice, poster and advertisement the student has the choice to select only one. So, if they prepare only one topic thoroughly then it is sufficient.
b. Letters based on verbal/visual input. – One question out of the two long Answer questions to be answered in 120-150 Words:6 Marks
Letter Types
includes-
Business or official letters (for making enquiries, registering complaints, asking for and giving information, placing orders and sending replies)
Letters to the editor (giving suggestions of opinion on issues of public interest)
Application for a job.
c. One composition based on visual and/or verbal input may be descriptive or argumentative in nature such as article/a debate/a speech or a report – One Very Long Answer Question containing internal choice, to be answered in 150-200 Words. (10x1 = 10 Marks). This question can be compared with the essay writing which was the part of their previous syllabus.
d. Grammar - Voice, Narration, Types of Clauses, Determiners and some usual grammar topics(1x10=10 Marks)
In Section – C, We have the questions from our textbook. It carries 30 marks and has the following scheme.
I. Eight Objective Type Questions – 4 from one poetry and 4 from one prose
extract to test comprehension and appreciation. (8X1=08 Marks)
III. One out of two Long Answer Questions to be answered in 120-150 words to test comprehension (6Marks) (flamingo)
IV. One out of two Long Answer Questions to be answered in 120-150 words to test global comprehension along with analysis and extrapolation. (6 Marks) (Vistas)
